2. When to Teach Short Vowel Sounds

If students say that ‘y’ is a vowel, tell them that ‘y’ can be a vowel but is not always. For the purpose of these lessons, we are only working with the “all the time” vowels, which are ‘a’, ‘e’, ‘i’, ‘o’, ‘u’.
